"CAVE DWELLINGS" ON MARS
The discovery of new startling features on Mars that holds
intriguing implications for the possibility of Life on Mars, was recently
reported by U.S. government scientists. It could also corroborate an
aspect of Zecharia Sitchin's writings - that a leading "ancient astronaut"
was buried on that planet.
A team of scientists from the United States Geological
Survey reported at the recent annual Lunar and Planetary Science
Conference in Houston, Texas, that images taken by NASA's Mars-orbiting
spacecraft Mars Odyssey show what appear to be cave
entrances where primitive life forms - "past or present microbial
life" -
could have been sheltered, and where water could exist
in liquid form.
A more detailed perusal of the report reveals that the
spacecraft actually photographed, in both visual and infrared, puzzling
dark circular structures associated with these caves - structures
ranging in size from 100 to 250 meters (330 to 825 feet).
Picking up the hardly-noticed story in its June 2007 issue,
the prestigious journal Scientific American has now provided
additional information: Seven such "football size" caverns were
identified; they are 425 feet deep. They could "serve as havens from
radiation on the surface and so would be the most likely areas to harbor
life." The journal then added that the caverns "could also accumulate ice,
which could support future human exploration" (by astronauts from
Earth).
And then Scientific American augmented the report's
intriguing aspects by headlining the story MARTIAN CAVE
DWELLINGS:
"Cave dwellings" for microbes?? Or does the journal
envision shelters for real astronauts?
Back to the Face on Mars
While Scientific American has probably in mind future
astronauts, the new discoveries have important implications for the
presence on Mars of "ancient astronauts," and have a bearing on the issue
of the famed (and controversial) Face on Mars.
In his various volumes of The Earth Chronicles
series, Zecharia Sitchin has provided ancient evidence, both texts on clay
tablets and illustrations from cylinder seals, showing that Mars served as
a way station for the Anunnaki "gods" in their space travels from Nibiru
to Earth. (See also the article "Was the 'Face' depicted 4,500 years ago?"
on this website).

In The Lost Book of Enki (2004) Zecharia wrote
in regard to the Face on Mars that it marked the burial place of an
Anunnaki leader named Alalu - that a great rock, fashioned in the image of
his face wearing an astronaut's helmet, covered a cave in which the
dead Anunnaki leader was laid to rest.
The existence on Mars of large caves ('caverns') topped by
shaped rock structures - now revealed by NASA's new discoveries -
was thus actually written about first in Zecharia's
The Lost Book of Enki three years earlier.

THE
JERUSALEM CHALICE: A CLUE TO PIVOTAL EVENTS
As excited anticipation for the release of The End of
Days on April 3rd rises, questions have been asked about
the central image on the cover design - an ancient coin on which a chalice
is depicted: What is it, what does it signify, and why does it suggest a
nuclear device?
Readers of the book will find the explanation in the
chapter titled "Jerusalem: A Chalice, Vanished," which deals with the epic
events of the Last Supper -
the traditional meal ushering the Passover holiday
which Jesus celebrated with his disciples in Jerusalem - immortalized in
Da Vinci's famed painting.
"The presence of a wine goblet dedicated to the prophet
Elijah is an essential part of the ceremonial meal," Zecharia Sitchin,
author of The End of Days, said. ; "So, as in a famed Sherlock
Holmes mystery where the clue to solving the crime was the question.
Why did the dog not bark, I realized that the clue to
the painting's message or 'code' is the question: Why is this ritual wine
goblet, that scriptures mention, not shown?"
Equally enigmatic is the appearance of a chalice's image
on a Freedom Coin struck by the Jewish rebels against the Roman rulers in
Jerusalem, not long after Jesus was accused of claiming to be the rebel
"King of the Jews." The book thus puts in context the mystery of the
'Holy Grail'.
Showing how those events in Jerusalem were the pivot
connecting the Past with the Future, the book uses the very words of the
biblical Prophets to suggest that the nuclear threats of the twenty-first
century A.D. are an echo of the actual use of nuclear devices in the
twenty-first century B.C. Thus the nuclear aspect of the Chalice
Coin - a link to the book's subtitle: Armageddon and Prophecies of the
Return.
Is it just a coincidence that this explosive book is

30th
ANNIVERSARY OF THE 12TH PLANET
An overflow attendance of
friends and fans joined Zecharia on November 11th in New York City to
celebrate the 30th anniversary of the publication of his first book,
The 12th Planet. Now in its 45th printing in the USA -
a record - it has been translated into 23 languages and printed, reprinted
and published around the world, reaching millions of
readers.
Coming from all parts of
the USA and Canada, many rose to give personal accounts of how Zecharia's
writings have affected their lives and understanding of our past and our
future.
Zecharia, on his part,
gave a personal account of the road he had traveled from that first book
to the coming one, titled THE END OF DAYS: Armageddon and Prophecies of
the Return.
Two commemorative
anniversary posters were made available at the event. One reproduces
the original cover, the other reproduces covers of translations from

ROBBING PLUTO OF ITS PLANETHOOD:
Leave It The Way
The Sumerians Had It

Our solar system has only eight
"classical" planets - so has decided the astronomer's union, meeting
in Prague. Pluto - still out there - must be
laughing.
It is ironic - or, perhaps,
symbolic - that the decision to deprive Pluto of its status as our
sun's ninth planet coincides with the 30th anniversary of the
publication of my seminal work The Twelfth Planet in Autumn
l976. ; In it I suggested that the Sumerian Epic of Creation is
not an allegorical myth but a sophisticated cosmogony scientifically
describing how our solar system came to be; and it most definitely
included Pluto.
Inscribed on seven clay tablets,
the text described how the inner and outer planets appeared; how an
invading celestial body
("Nibiru") collided with and broke
up the planet 'Tiamat', creating "a new heaven;" and how Nibiru,
captured in a great elliptical orbit, became the twelfth member of
the Sun's Family - Sun, Moon, and ten planets including Earth,
Nibiru and Pluto. These 'celestial gods' were matched by a
pantheon of twelve deities on Earth.
The reports from Prague at first
suggested that astronomers were bothered by Pluto's small size, now
that a large icy body has been found farther out. But the final vote
focused on what has troubled astronomers almost from Pluto's
discovery in 1930. ; Its unusual inclined orbit that weaves in
and out of Neptune's path.
This odd orbit has led some
astronomers to speculate that Pluto began its life as a satellite,
perhaps of Neptune. But what forceful event could have caused
it to shift position and adopt a strange orbit? No one knew. But in
The 12th Planet I wrote that the Sumerians of ancient
Mesopotamia knew: Pluto ("GAGA" in the Epic of Creation) was indeed
a moon of Saturn, pried off and sent into independent orbit by the
invading Nibiru to play an important role in those celestial
encounters.
In fact, the Sumerians were also
aware that Gaga/Pluto ended up in the odd orbit next to Neptune.
In the Sumerian pantheon, the planet we call Neptune was the
celestial counterpart of the Aquarius god Enki. ; His
'chancellor' or 'visier' was nicknamed Ushmu, meaning "He 'of two
faces" - and so was he depicted, with one face looking at Enki and a
second face looking away from him (Fig. 1) - exactly the way Pluto
looks at Neptune.
The Epic of Creation and other
relevant Sumerian texts are supported by other pictorial
depictions, such as the cylinder seal VA-243 in the Berlin Near
Eastern Museum. (Fig.2). It shows the sun in the center (!),
surrounded by eleven orbiting bodies that include the Moon, Pluto
and the yet to be recognized "Planet X" -- Nibiru.
Sumerian knowledge of the origin
and makeup of our solar system included a host of other aspects that
modern science has been rediscovering in recent times. Here, suffice
it to say: The Sumerians, counted Pluto as a member in good standing
of our Sun's Family; let it stay so.

Baalbek
War Comes to the "Landing
Place"
The name of an
ancient site - Ba'albek in Lebanon - has now been mentioned
in dispatches by war correspondents covering the latest flareup in
the Middle East. ; Israeli planes have been dropping bombs
there on training and supply encampments of Hezbollah terrorists, in
a tit-for-tat for the latter's missile attacks on Israel. Some of
the dispatches refer to the town's "Roman ruins" -
remains of temples
that Roman emperors erected in honor of Rome's gods; but little, if
any, mention is made of the place's earlier and much more
significant archaeological remains.
I and those who have
been with me to the place several years ago can attest that the
"Roman ruins" are indeed imposing remains of three magnificent
temples, including the largest temple to Jupiter anywhere in the
Roman empire, Rome itself included -
as an artist's
reconstruction shows (Fig. 1). But the Romans came there
because the place had been revered earlier by the Greeks.
Pompey, Rome's conquering general, offered there sacrifices in 60
B.C. imitating Alexander the Great who paid there homage to Zeus
centuries earlier. The Greeks came because the place was
deemed a unique sacred site by the Phoenicians and the Babylonians
before them; and before all those generals and emperors and kings,
Gilgamesh, king of Uruk in ancient Sumer, went there circa 2900 B.C.
to obtain immortality from the gods.
The "Landing
Place"
Having been the son
of the goddess Ninsun and the high priest of Uruk, ; Gilgamesh
was considered not just a demigod but "two thirds divine."
This, he asserted, entitled him to avoid the death of a
mortal. Yes, his mother told him -
but to attain
our longevity you have to go to our planet, Nibiru (where one year
equals 3,600 Earth-years). So Gilgamesh journeyed from Sumer
(now southern Iraq) to 'The Landing Place" in the cedar mountains
where the rocketships of the gods were lofted.
The Epic of
Gilgamesh, a text
found inscribed on clay tablets, actually describes how
Gilgamesh witnessed a rocketship being launched from the Landing
Place. A later Phoenician coin depicted such a rocket standing on a
launching pad (Fig. 2).
As this depiction
shows, the launch facility was located on a great platform; and
indeed, the truly ancient site of Baalbek encompassed a paved stone
platform of about five million square feet!
The Colossal Stone Blocks
The most important
section of that ancient Landing Place was its northwestern corner,
where the remains of the Jupiter temple are located. Its ruins
stand atop a platform that rose even higher by rows of perfectly
shaped stone blocks weighing some 600 tons each. (Fig. 3);
this is a weight that no existing modern equipment can lift. ;
(By comparison, the stone blocks of the Great Pyramid in Giza,
Egypt, weigh about 25 tons each).
These are far from
being the largest stone blocks there. As described in my
latest illustrated book The Earth Chronicles Expeditions, the
ever-rising layers of these stone blocks form, in the northwestern
corner, a funnel-like stone tower. The western wall of that
towerlike structure has been reinforced with rows
("courses")
of stone blocks
weighing 900 tons each. ; On top of them, another higher course
is made up of three unique stone blocks weighing 1,100 tons
each. ; Known as the Trilithon, these are the largest cut and
shaped construction stone blocks in the world! (Fig.
4).
The
Quarry
The enigmas
surrounding the site and the colossal stone blocks do not include
one puzzle - where were those stone blocks quarried; because at a
stone quarry about two miles away from the site, one of those
1,100-ton blocks is still there - its quarrying
unfinished.
To show it, and give
an idea of its size, I had my group stand shoulder to shoulder at
the foot of this stone block - an accomplishment
commemorated by the enclosed photograph (Fig.
5).
The quarry is in a
valley, a couple of miles from the site of the "ruins." This means
that in antiquity, someone had the capability and technology needed
for quarrying, cutting and shaping colossal stone blocks in the
quarry -
then lifting
the stone blocks up and carrying them to the construction site, and
there not just let go and drop the stone block, but place them
precisely in the designated course. And there they have remained,
intact and unshaken in spite of the passage of time and frequent
earthquakes - held together and in place without any
mortar...
Built Before the
Flood
Who was that "someone?" What technology
was used for the incredible feat? When and Why was it all
done?
The Maronite Christians who for
generations deemed themselves custodians of the site (before they
were displaced by the Shiite Moslems) told legends of the "giants"
who had built the colossal platform. I found the answers in the
ancient Sumerian texts, and related them in The Stairway to
Heaven and The Wars of Gods and Men.
The great stone platform was indeed the
first Landing Place of the Anunnaki gods on Earth, built by them
before they established a proper spaceport. It was the only
structure that had survived the Flood, and was used by Enki and
Enlil as the post-Diluvial headquarters for the reconstruction of
the devastated Earth.
It is the only structure on Earth from
before the Flood.
