How to walk out of the woods on a sprained
ankle.
In the early seventies I was foreman in a large
shop and was required to take an industrial first aid class. This was one of the
things that was pointed out to us.
I will try to explain this as well as I can without
pictures.

A 8 inch wide strip of cloth about ;five
feet long is ideal. Roll it into a roll from side to side so you have a roll
laying there the full length. Leaving your shoe or boot on, place the roll on
the ground and center your foot over it so it hooks in front of the heel of
your boot. Bring both ends up and around behind the heel of your boot so they
cross each other and then bring the ends around so they cross each other again
over you instep. Tuck the ends of the roll under the angled portion that comes
up from under your foot to your heel and fold forward to your instep again. Draw
it up very firmly at all points and tie with a square knot in front of
your instep. A piece of rope will work but it isn't as comfortable.
You can do a dry run with this and see how much
firmer your ankle feels when walking. I did this one time on a sprain and it
really works.
