I do everything with .htaccess.  AFAIK it does not even
matter which  
one you use.

Hi,

A bit of follow-up : I've used Mika rules and got things
working fine
with multisite. Thanks you!

In case it's useful to someone else:
- I updated the default site through the console (its 'host'
attribute
was set to 'unusedfornow.com').
- I used RewriteLog / RewriteLogLevel to trace the rewrites
and ensure
that everything is behaving as expected.

I also did some bench using ab and did not see a massive
improvement... I'll move to NGinx or LSWeb on this host if
speed
becomes an issue.
