I've just been experimenting with or "rel-lint"
bookmarklet, and have
found what I believe is a bug.

It finds a tag in:

        <a href="http://www
.bbc.co.uk/naturescalendar" rel="tag"
>

but not in:

        <a href="http://ww
w.bbc.co.uk/naturescalendar/" rel="tag"
>

It's my understanding that the latter is a valid tag, per:

        <h
ttp://microformats.org/wiki/rel-tag#Tag_Spaces>

"Trailing slashes in tag URLs are ignored"

You can see the latter version in use, at:

I submitted that page top Technorati, 6 or 7 hours ago, ad
it's still
not found there, either - does Technorati have the same bug,
or does it
tale longer to index pages?

Can someone confirm that that's a bug in rel-lint, please?

Anecdotally I've found Technorati to be just shy of
"completely
random" in terms of how long it takes to index new
posts (if at all).
I have had some posts appear within minutes, others take
days, others
simply never make it.

I'm not making any claim that the problem isn't my pages
(that's
entirely possible), but I've never received a response from
Technorati
support to get their views on the subject. YMMV

cheers,

Ben

Well, the page concerned is still not listed. what a pity
none of the
people from Technorati who post here has the time to give a
simple yes/
no answer to my question about what seems to be a bug in
their system.

Andy, what do you mean by 'submitted the page to Technorati'
?

By the look of it, you pinged us as if it were a blog url.

We indexed it on 2006-11-25 01:43:05 PST, and didn't find
any blog
posts in it.

As it is a non-blog page, you should submit it via Pingerati

http://pingerati.net and
it
will be indexed for microformats, and go into the
microformat search
index.

Ben, sorry to hear that. Sometimes pings get lost or dropped
on their
way to us, and we only pick up the post when your blog next
updates.
What is your blog URL?

How do you detect a "blog post", as opposed to
some other web page, by
machine?

>As it is a non-blog page, you should submit it via
Pingerati

So when the "rel-tag" page on the 'wiki' says:

        Technorati indexes rel-tag tags

it should say:

Technorati indexes rel-tag tags in blogs

?

>and it will be indexed for microformats, and go into the
microformat

Pingerati does not appear to support tags; nor does the
Technorati uF
search, which also refers to "tagged posts".

Off the top of my head I can't point you directly to a post
that
hasn't indexed at all, sorry. A few old ones did eventually
find their
way into the index; although well after they dropped off the
first few
pages of results (aka into oblivion ;)).

Occasionally the latest post gets in, but the second- or
third-latest won't.

Sometimes some tags on a post get in while others don't -
although
that could be formatting. eg.
http://weblog.200ok.com.au/2006/09/
wd06-derek-featherstone-accessibility.html
isn't being picked up on http://te
chnorati.com/tag/accessibility+2.0
even though I think the formatting of my tag is correct (+
used for
spaces as per
http://microformats.org/wiki/rel-tag#Encoding_issues).
It is picked up on http://t
echnorati.com/tag/derek+featherstone
...maybe an issue with "." in tags?

Here's hoping I'm not airing a dumb mistake in the most
embarrassing
possible place....

cheers,

Ben
