true. I have no idea what the BBC's
setup might be, but the <base> element has the
potential to do some
sort of load balancing as well. Sending to
temp-site1.bbc.co.uk, etc.

Also, (a topic for another thread/group) what is the whole
build/approval/publishing process for small to large
organizations?
Things like; where the base element points, is discovered
easily by
clicking on things, images not loading, or through
validators and link
checkers before the files are published live. This is
orthogonal to
microformats, POSH and/or web semantics.
