Thread: uF Tools for Internet Explorer?

I was evangelizing microformats, hCard in particular, to a
client
today and he had the very valid question: Are there any
tools for IE?

We have Operator & Tails for Firefox, but the majority
of users out
there are still using IE, and if they could use something,
even a
bookmarklet, to export hCards from web pages it would make
evangelizing a whole lot easier.

Maybe I just missed them in the wiki. If so a link would be
great. Thanks!

I got the same questions at an ISP I work for when I showed
them Operator
and Tails in Firefox.

Some more tools for IE might also help convince more people
of the
advantages of using microformats on their websites.

I remember seeing some posts about "Live
Clipboard" about a year ago and it
looked interesting.

Hello,

I know this doesn't really answer your question, but....

The rumor is that IE8 will have native support for
Microformats.

See ya

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not sure those
rumours have
ever been supported by anything out of Microsoft. There's a
lot of
circumstantial reasoning (Microsoft's efforts with Live
Clipboard,
Vista shipping with an iCalendar based calendar application
and
updated Contacts app), but I don't know that any IE
developer has
substantiated the link even slightly.

In fact, last I recall reading for IE.next on the IE blog
was a focus
on JavaScript and DOM scripting enhancements.

I think this was the page mentioned a while back

http://spaces.live.c
om/editorial/rayozzie/demo/liveclip/liveclipsample/clipboard
example.html

btw ...

I have Firebug (useful DOM-Inspector-like tool) installed in
Firefox and on
that page noticed it is showing some parsing errors
generated by Operator
(such as "No fn specified") as "javascript
errors"

Those to "blank" microformats for pasting are
technically invalid.

Personally I think the live clipboard is a red herring.

What we need to investigate is something like operator that
works in
page for microformats. I have thought about this, but it's
not high on
my list.

I'm going to try to see about making a favelet for IE that
uses Brian
Suda's XSL, or Technorati's implementation or something,
(when I
actually get going I'll E-mail those of you responsible
asking
permission - don't worry). It's a bit of a stop-gap but
hopefully it
can start letting IE users at least see the value of an
hCard.

--- the microformats wiki has a list of existing
bookmarklets[1], if
you create any new ones, please be sure to add them to the
list.

Those certainly exist.

Understandably!

They weren't very easy to find.

I've added this page which now links to them:

 http://microformats.org/wiki/internet-explorer-extensio
ns

If/when you come across additional tools for Internet
Explorer, please add
them to that page.

Thanks!

I figured that they must, but I just wasn't able to find any
so I came
& asked, and was answered!

That's perfect. Thanks!

Will do.
