Does anybody know why delicious isn't microformatted? I can
only guess, either yahoo is starving the site, or they are
against the concept. It sticks out like a sore thumb in my
weblife...on occasion when demonstrating Operator to friends
I go to delicious assuming they have some, alwasy forgetting
because it seems like a perfect site to host MF's.

Hello,

>From what I remember... at one time... del.icio.us was
discouraging
people from crawling the HTML pages on their site... and
instead
wanted them to crawl the RSS feeds.

This policy may have changed by now... but... that may have
been the
source of it. (They didn't want people to parse the HTML
pages...
they didn't want to do anything to help people do that.)

But that's just a guess.

They are about to release a new design of their website,
that may be why
there aren't any microformats present on their site yet.
Time will tell
if they have added microformats in their new design.

Last time I talked to Joshua Schachter (founder of
del.icio.us) about
this, we was opposed to microformats in general.

I can ask, but how is a social bookmarking site a perfect
example to
host MFs? Surely the idea is that instead of keeping local
copies
(which you'd do if you export microformats) you keep all of
them in a
central online repository to maintain them.

As to Yahoo starving the site, I don't even know what you
mean by
that. At least our team's commitment to microformats is
total and we
added them to Yahoo local about a year before Google Maps
got them
(and people here went nuts about it) and also to TV and
several other
properties. Another property will go live soon and will
probably be
the bigges MF repository out there as the team used almost
all in the
list.

Another question that keep propping up in my head is WHY
would you ask
a third party list when you wonder about a certain product
and their
implementations and support issues? There is a full list of
contacts
available: http://del.icio.us/help/

I would say because practically all data shown on delicious
can me
marked up with some sort of microformat.
rel-bookmark would help to separate bookmarked links from
the
delicious-interface.
rel-tag would give users of Operator or similar a
possibility of easily
viewing the available tags and look some of them up on other
sites
supporting tags, Technorati for example.
hCards and perhaps XFN would enable the user to extract
userdata,
perhaps for some kind of an addressbook or perhaps for
another social
network.
The latter is described in
http://microformats.org/wiki/social-network-portability
