The general client install is just that - a general purpose
stand-alone installation that is suitable for unmanaged
environments.
If you want a fully configurable installation, use the
client install
from the Admin CD and build your own ruleset. You can always
export
the ruleset from a type system and import it into a
standalone client
if you do not run the management console.
Though I do think you need a clear idea of why you want to
exclude the
SNS comparator machines (not the scanners). The main case I
know is
personal machines that do not connect directly to the campus
(dial-up,
VPN, AirBears, ethernet, etc.). Otherwise I am quite happy
to let them
test my settings. They are nice people, and I'll learn from
anyone
