Hi, Marcos,
Survey Monkey and Zoomerang are the two most used survey
tools on
campus. They are easy to administer, inexpensive, and yield
data tables
that facilitate analysis. Monkey Survey, if you have no
more than 10
questions and, I believe, fewer than 100 respondents is
free.
However, our campus Web Accessibility Group, which I lead,
has found that
both of these tools are completely inaccessible to people
with low or no
vision who are using screen readers to access the Web. This
is frustrating
in that there are relatively simple fixes to the problems
that we saw when
we tested both of these tools. A member of our group even
contacted the
vendors who provided a reply somewhat along the lines of
"it's on the list"
-- not understanding that the accessibility-usability link
is most
helpfully utilized if addressed in the earliest stages of
design and
development.
But there is hope out there! Karin Bliman and Elise Jok of
IST
(kbliman berkeley.edu and elisej berkeley.edu) developed a
survey tool for
Psychology that is accessible to screen reader users. We'd
like to see the
development of accessible survey tools be a lot further
along than it
currently is in the marketplace. Maybe this is where we can
contribute as
a campus.
Happy to discuss off-line...
Dianne
