Starting yesterday, on my home machine (Windows XP), I
noticed that I can
no longer get Symantec Live Update to work. When I click on
the 'Live
Update' button, I *immediately* get this message:

    Initializing...
    Unable to connect to host
LU1814: LiveUpdate could not retrieve the catalog
file of available Symantec product and component
updates. Please verify that you are able to connect
to the Internet and run LiveUpdate again.

I checked my (Symantec) firewall and even ran the special
script at the
Symantec site that's supposed to clean up possibly corrupt
AV files
corresponding to this problem (i.e., LU1814). Also, running
Ethereal on
my machine, I see no indication that any attempt is being
made to connect
to the network after I click the Live Update button.

The date shown on my Virus Definitions File is 6/20/2006;
i.e., that's
apparently the last time my scheduled downloads succeeded.

Has anyone else been seeing this problem?

I'm running Symantec Client security with the recent
patches applied.
The version of Symantec AV is 10.1.0.401.

Thanks.

Mike

The Symantec Knowledge Base article that addresses this
issue is:

"Error: "LiveUpdate could not get the list of
updates. LiveUpdate could
not retrieve the catalog file . . ."

This happened to a neighbor of mine yesterday who was
running Norton
Internet Security. I couldn't figure it out but I didn't
spend a lot of time on it because this machine had been
infected many times with virii and spyware. I just
uninstalled
Norton and installed the GrisAv so he wasn't surfing naked.
