I have a Dell PowerEdge 2650 that is getting errors on both
the CD-ROM
and floppy, which are combined in a single hot-plug module.
Before
finding and ordering the replacement part, I'd like to
verify that my
CD/floppy module is bad. It seems unlikely that both would
fail
together. They light up & spin, etc. when disks are
inserted, but it
won't boot from either. Under the currently installed Linux
system, if I
try to mount a CD-ROM, I get a "no media"
message. If I try to mount a
floppy the mount command succeeds, but attempts to read
result in read
errors.
Is anyone with a 2650 able to help? I'd like to test my
CD/floppy module
in your server and/or test your CD/floppy module in my
server.
If anyone has other advice or suggestions I'd appreciate
it. Of course
it's out of warranty. I believe the BIOS is A05, but of
course I can't
update it without a working floppy drive...
TIA, Paul
