Hi
First a problem a was able to solve.
I had a visiting researcher who couldn't print to a networked HP 1320.
Her computer is a brand new Apple Mac Book  Pro running OS X; an Intel based laptop.
She connects to the network using AirBears.
The problem was that even though the printer showed up correctly when created, and could be pinged successfully, it would not print.  It came up with an error that the job was terminated unexpectedly.
The bottom line:
Apple packaged the OS with drivers for its old non-Intel computers.  They don't always work for the new Intel based machines.  Once I downloaded the correct drivers from HP and installed them in the Library folder, the user could print successfully.
Download the Universal Binary drivers
See this site for instructions on how to manually replace drivers in Mac OS: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c00402404

I know there are a lot of good Mac techs out there, but I'm passing this on anyway since it took me a while to catch on to the problem, and maybe this will save someone a headache or two.

Now, I have some other problems that I am still trying to suss out, also dealing with a Mac Book Pro, though not the same one:

Problem #1: Internet Explorer and Safari don't authenticate to Airbears. Safari does not open auth screen and Explorer gives encryption error.

Problem#2: Most applications are slow. Word takes over 30 seconds to open a document (when opened from Mail). Excel takes about 20 seconds.

The owner used the migrating function to install all of her software and preference settings.

Many thanks for any help or even pointing me in the right direction...
Bill Gross
