Good Day,

We've seen a couple of instances where a user exceeds their
calmail quota
and when they attempt to delete messages through the web
interface they
receive an error message "could not complete request-
account full" (or
something to that effect).

Is there any simple way of dealing with this?

I seem to recall that squirrel mail defaults to deleting by
moving to
the trash box; you then have to choose "delete"
to purge the trash
box. There may not be enough room to move to trash in the
first place.

Might be a setting you can change in squirrel mail
preferences --
delete instantly, or something like that. Or, set the pop
client to
"leave on server" for fewer days, and re-check
mail once.

Good luck!

Make that "choose 'purge' to purge the DELETED
box"...

Hi Bill,

There is really no easy way to do this. I believe you are
receiving this
error because when you attempt to delete an piece of email
from any
folder that is NOT the Trash folder, the system is actually
doing the
following:

1. making a copy of the email in Trash
2. deleting the original email

Obviously, if you are close to the quota, you will get an
error message
if you attempt to "delete" your email (moving it
to the Trash folder).
If you are stuck at this spot, I would suggest:

1. Deleting everything in the Trash folder (when you delete
from the
Trash folder, you really are deleting from your account)
2. Try deleting mail from non-Trash folder that are smaller
in size (you
may be getting the error because you are deleting a piece of
email that
has large attachments; thus, it is hitting the quota)

Other helpful suggestions, such as setting your Trash (and
possibly
Sent) folders to delete email automatically after xxx
days/weeks/months
will certainly help you keep your quota down without your
actively
managing your emails.

CalMail folks - I don't think there is a way to do this,
but perhaps
something can be done so that if email is being moved from
an account to
the Trash folder, this would not count against the quota. Or
some other
setup so that there is a way to delete an email directly
from a
non-Trash folder into oblivion (as oppose to the Trash
folder).

Hope this helps.

This does seem like it would make sense... but, then, of
course, we
might just want to rename it "the long-term archiving
of large
messages" folder.
