I am trying to resurrect hand-me-down iMac G5
(dome-and-panel) that was
reliably reported to have a bad hard drive.
I put in a nice 80GB W-D drive, bare.
At power-on I get an image that alterantes between a folder
with the Mac
face and one with a question mark. Not surprising.
The CD drive door is closed, and there is no obvious way to
open it. I
want to power-up with an OS disc in the drive, while holding
down a magic
key, with hopes of reinstalling the OS.
Does it sound like I didn't get the machine back together
right?
Thanks,
tc

There's an eject key top right of the keyboard to open the
dvd drive.
The icon is a dash with an up-arrow-like triangle on top.
Hold down "C" while booting and it should load
up fine.

If, for reason, there is no eject key, holding down the
mouse button
while the machine boots will also eject the CD tray.

Thanks to all who replied....
The solution was to use the eject key at the right-top of
the keyboard. I
never would have found it without help; there was no manual.
Now loading OS from CD's.
