I have an old Handspring Visor Deluxe which works fine.
Recently, however, whenever doing a hotsync my Windows
XP system would crash! This was strange because it had
worked for years.

confirms this, that the problem is caused by the fact that
the Palm USB driver doesn't work on dual processor (real
or hyperthreaded) systems! Since I had just changed my
desktop
to a dual-core machine, I was hitting this bug. Since
there's
a good change that virtually every new machine these days
will be
dual core, this problem might hit you too.

The temporary solution is simple. Using the Task Manager,
you can set CPU Affinity to CPU 0. Doing this solves the
problem.
