Thread: Strange Artifact From Windows Update

Strange Artifact From Windows Update

Something strange happened over the weekend on
a member server running Windows 2003 R2.

This server has been running great for months.
Last Saturday morning at about 3:00 A.M. it
automatically installed the latest Windows
updates, and did a reboot. This was a surprise,
since it had never done an automatic install
and reboot before. But, that's not the strangest
thing that happened.

When this system rebooted somehow the Windows
firewall configuration had also changed so
that it was restricting file serving to the
local subnet! This was a big problem since
my department is on several subnets. It
was trivial to fix but it worried me.

Has anybody else ever seen unexpected changes
to their Windows firewall, perhaps as a result
of installing Windows updates?

Cordially,
