Attention CalNet Application Developers:
After over two years of development, we are pleased to
announce the
official release of the v2 CalNet Directory Service.
The v2 Directory Service represents a significant upgrade to
the CalNet
Directory Service and has several new architectural and
performance
features that will allow the new service to be reliable,
scalable, and
extendable. The features that are of most interest to
application
developers are: a "distributed" data model,
revised schema, proxy
servers, off-site servers, and per-bind performance/access
settings.
The CalNet v2 Directory Service is now available and
developers can
begin converting their current v1-based applications to use
the new service.

Note: The CalNet Team will continue to support and maintain
the existing
v1 Directory Service well into 2007 in order to give
developers of
existing CalNet-enabled applications a reasonable amount of
time to
modify their code to use the new v2 Directory Service.
Ideally, we would
like all v1-based applications to be converted to the v2
service by July
of 2007.
We look forward to hearing your feedback regarding the new
service as
well as assisting existing applications through the
conversion process.
Cheers,
Rob Chevalier
The CalNet Team
