To: CalNet ID holders
From: CalNet Service administration

Planned upgrades to the CalNet authentication service have
made it
necessary to change the passphrase complexity rules for
CalNet IDs. The
new rules are described in the link noted below.

As a result of the new passphrase complexity rules, some
current CalNet
ID passphrases will become invalid for the CalNet service.
Note that the
CalNet system automatically tests all passphrases for
compliance during
the system upgrade process and identifies only the
non-compliant CalNet
IDs, *not* the passphrases themselves.

As a result, some CalNet ID holders may be receiving the
following
e-mail notice starting in the first half of January, 2007,
and repeating
approximately once per week until they have been able to
select a
passphrase for their CalNet ID which meets the new
complexity requirements.

Subject: CalNet Passphrase Change Required

The CalNet Passphrase Complexity Requirements have been
changed
recently. In the near future, these new requirements will be
enforced
whenever you authenticate to a CalNet application. Your
passphrase does
not currently meet the new requirements, so you should
change it as soon
as possible. To do so, please go to this web page:

    https://
net-auth.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/krbcpw

The new passphrase requirements are described here:

http://calnetad.berkeley.edu/documentati
on/integration/adpassphrase.html

(Once your passphrase satisfies these requirements, you will
no longer
receive this reminder notice).

Thank you,

The CalNet Team
