I have 323 Objects representing 236MB of memory. I try to
copy and paste
to a 1.0GB SanDisk Memory Stick PRO Duo but it only takes
211 objects at
140.2MB of memory. I've tried several different methods
including copying
a photo at a time from my hard drive to the memory stick.
When it reaches
a certain point it won't allow me to add any more. I get the
following
error message: Cannot copy "name of file": The
directory or file cannot be
created.
I have another 1GB SD card and have essentially the same
problem. What am
I doing wrong? How do I store 1 gig of stuff on these 1 gig
cards?
Thanks,
Monica

1) Short term, quick-and-dirty solution: Maybe zip the
folder first
before copying it actoss?
2) Longer-term solution: Have you tried backing up all of
the data
currently on the cards and reformatting them?

Hi Monica,
I don't know if this may be the case, however from years ago
working with
DOS, I ran into a case where I could not copy files to a
hard drive.
The problem was that the directory was limited to a specific
number of
entries at the root level.
Once I created subdirectories and populated them, I had no
problem putting
all the files on the drive ... they just couldn't be at the
root (c:)
level.
Might this be happening on the memory stick?

Hi Monica,
Here's another take that has had me stymied in the past...I
don't
know if a Win/PC handles it the same way, but on a Mac if
you had,
say, 600MB on the stick and trashed those files to make room
for the
new files - they aren't really gone. They may be stored in
the
stick's trash. You may need to empty the trash while the
stick is
mounted and see if that helps. Of course the fact that the
same
thing is happening with another stick means this may not be
the
problem in this case.
Just another idea: You say you have a 1GB stick, but did
you look at
the info/properties for the drive to see what you might
learn there?
