Hello Jack, There are ways to approach this. I'm not sure of all the workings of it, but it involves master documents somehow gathering up the individual pieces. I think from the master document you can update the full index to take changes into account. It's been a long time since I worked with this, but I recall making this happen. Most of the how-to came from the MS Word Help files! Here's an interesting question posed to me in the computer lab today: How can you create a book/large document, out of several Word Documents (each is a chapter in the dissertation)(they are kept separate to maintain full control over formatting and style, since they are different from chapter to chapter, plus the person wants to keep the chapters separate to aid in proofing and any future break-outs of the chapters into individual works) while keeping a real-time TABLE OF CONTENTS that reflects the present page numbers? So if today some additions to chapter One make it 3 pages longer, is it possible to have Chapter Two.doc linked so it will begin NOW at page 31? Any ideas?
