This is actually possible but it requires that you edit your
Thunderbird
preferences.
First, you should read up on creating a 'user.js' file for
Thunderbird:
http://kb.mozi
llazine.org/User.js_file
Here are the commands that you will need to add to your
'user.js' file:
// remove 'department' from attribute mapping
user_pref("ldap_2.servers.default.attrmap.Department&
quot;,
"departmentnumber,ou,orgunit");
// add exact department match to search filter
user_pref("mail.addr_book.quicksearchquery.format&quo
t;,
"?(or(Department,=, V)(PrimaryEmail,c, V)(DisplayName,c, V)(FirstName,c, V)(LastName,c, V))");
With this configuration, you can now enter a department code
(like
'JICCS') into the Thunderbird Address Book search field
and find all of
the people associated with that department.
We plan to document this setup on the CalNet website in
detail next
week, but until then, courageous Thunderbird users are
welcome to try
this configuration out and let us know how it goes in
advance.
Cheers,
Rob Chevalier
