We put in a new network printer last week (hoo-ray!), but
part of the
driver software seems to have an odd quirk.
%systemroot%system32spooldriversBIDIHPBOID.DLL is being
held open
by workstations, even after the user has logged off. So with
our lab
machines I am seeing many open file connections to this
file, even
though the users have logged off.
The print$ share is not caching for off-line use, and it did
not
happen with our previous HP 4100dtn printer.
I am now trying a forced disconnect of network printer
queues on
logout (con2prt.exe -f) to see if that sorts it out.
Printer server: Win2K3, standard edition
Printer: HP 4250dtn, tried both PCL6 (current) and
PostScript drivers
Workstations: WinXP
My guess is that this is a bidirectional communications
module. The
current driver from HP is listed for all current Windows
versions,
including Vista.
Has anyone seen this before (and fixed it)? If so, what have
I
overlooked?
