Hi:
A student has asked that I put reel player on the computers
in the lab. As
this is what is needed to listen to web casts on campus do
we have a campus
installer or a copy that can be easily put on several
systems. I thought I
would check first before I download the free version for
each system. Thanks

I favour Real Alternative (from
http://ww
w.codecguide.com/download_real.htm and various other
codec
sources). If you run the program with a -h command switch it
will give
you details on how to build an unattended installation. You
use the
-MakeUnattended switch and follow the Windows dialog
instructions.
PSExec or other distribution method should get it out to the
lab.

It is essentially a codec and a version of Real player
Classic. It
works for the campus web lectures, and has plugins for IE
and Firefox.

Hello Micronetifiers,

So, at the risk of starting something really torturous, why
is it that Real
Player is required? Why not quicktime? -- for example.
Aren't there options
to Real Player? My local work-station folks have always told
us to stay away
from Real, not sure why.

Thanks,

Bond

Lucia,

You might look at the free Real Player Enterprise, which can
be
downloaded after filing-in the form at

http://forms.real.com/rnforms/products/tools/red/inde
x.html

It is stripped-down player, without ads or unwanted
features, that
suits us well. One of our partners, the Digital Library I
think, recommends it.
