Questions sent to me so far regarding Career Compass, the August 21 topic:
1. ; I work in IT in an academic department along with several others. ; Our positions vary according to complexity and experience. ; My department doesn't understand the new mapping.  Where do I go for help?

2.  Are all the IT matrices completed?  The last time I looked there were many missing areas.

3.  I still have not heard anything from the manament/HR staff in my department.  What should I do?

4.  How do I develop my IT career on campus?  What kind of training is available?  Are there mentors?  There has been talk of programs, but I have been unable to find any information.

Not to steal anyone's thunder, but some related tidbits came
up in
the Webnet meeting with Rich Lau et al. on Monday. I think
I have
this right:

All of the job fields are rotating through their comment
periods, and
final updates to the matrices are pending.

Actual mapping activities in departments won't begin for
another six
months or so.

I recall that during the comment period, I attempted to view
many of the
IT matrices and many of them were incomplete or had not yet
been posted
to the website. Yet the 30-day clock on the comment period
was
nevertheless ticking. Moreover, it seems pretty difficult
to comment on
job matrices when you don't know how they will be mapped to
salary
ranges. A "senior" position that maps to PSS 3 is
pretty different than
on that maps to MSP 4--I would certainly have different
expectations.

I guess my concern here would be that we had a comment
period in which
there wasn't really much for rank-and-file staff to comment
on...but
there will be a lot to comment on as we actually try to go
through this
process. Are there going to be more comment periods?
