Ted,
*If* all of your potential scan-to-email recipients use the
same
incoming mail server, just use that MX record for the
copier's SMTP
server. So, if all potential recipients are berkeley.edu, use
calmail.berkeley.edu as the copier's SMTP server.
(The SMTP server requires no authentication for delivery to
a local
mailbox. This is, for example, how berkeley.edu e-mail users
receive e-mail from the rest of the world -- without
authentication.)
If you have users at a variety of mail hosts, then you've
got a
tougher situation. Try contacting calmail folks to see if
they can
help to work something out, such as IP-based authentication.
Worth a
shot!
-Greg
