Ahem,
Those new Mac ads really suck! They make "think
different" look like
the words of Shakespeare.

I note that they do not touch the business market. It's
all about
fun! None of this serious stuff like work with applications
that
only run on PCs.

Ah, Michael, you must be a PC ... Does this get the war
started?
Thanks,

No, he's a BSD box, far more stylish than PC, yet with more
edge than Mac.
I'm a Mac/Unix, yet have to admit, the ads do suck. I can
almost hear
the PR flacks say "dumb it down for popular
appeal".
Quite depressing. That it will work is more depressing
still. Not that
it works, but why.

Hi all,
I think the Apple ads do some good, because many computer
users in the world
are not techs, and really don't know or care much about the
workings of the
machines. So, while the ads might be pretty silly to us,
they do explain in
a quick, simple way what can be a really important selling
point. People
just want things to work.
Now, if you think those ads were bad, browse these if you
can:
http://www.novell.com/vi
deo/
"Elevator" and "Flying Boy" aren't
too bad. Although I will say that the
I.T. Guy in "Elevator" is kind of jerky.
Now, here are RedHat's pro-linux videos -
http://www.redhat
.com/truthhappens/
Nice looking, but you kind of have to understand what
open-source is to
really get the point of the commercial - I don't think
non-technical people
would get these
Here's a more anti-mac video:
http://video.google.com/videoplay
?docid=566497855712943675&q=genre:ad_promo
(What is a bit ironic is that I am writing this on a old G4
right now)
I'm waiting for some UCB IT videos!
Part 1 - for Professors & staff - "Why screaming
at your IT staff might be a
bad idea"

Ah, but to start a flame war you need to make a *really
controversial*
statement. This is just more justification for an oversize
mute control.

Ah, but here you're making an assumption that one is
watching live
and waiting around during a commercial break.
(Maybe *this* can start a flame war??)

I find that not watching television stops most ads dead in
their tracks.

Oh, you're one of *those people*, eh?
http://www
.theonion.com/content/node/28694
I normally avoid watching TV (although I _do_ own one), but
you'd be
surprised at the number and variety of muscle groups you
exercise--and
sometimes strain--during a major reorg, like the one we're
doing here in
IST. The result is that I come home sore and exhausted, and
that makes
it a bit more difficult to do my usual TV-avoiding physical
activity
after work, namely, getting liquored-up at the local saloon.
Hence, I
have been watching a bit more TV lately. However, those Mac
ads have
done wonders--no matter how tired I am, as soon as one comes
on, I hit
the remote, leap off the couch, and hobble down to the local
saloon. I
do owe Apple some thanks for helping to restore my
constitution...
