Colleagues,

 

Taylor Kao from Microsoft is offering the following free Best Practice Event to members of the campus community:

 

The Microsoft Best Practices for Higher Education event will provide a range of strategic insights and tactical directions that serve the concerns and priorities facing the UC Berkeley community today. You will have the opportunity to interact directly with Microsoft Technology Specialists from the Education team to exchange ideas and solutions and answer any questions you might have. Plus you will have the opportunity to learn about your peers' best practices. 

Our mission is to foster a collaborative environment designed to help you extend your existing Microsoft technology investment; update you on current and future Microsoft technologies; and showcase solutions and programs that have been designed for education.

 

You are invited to attend this event on June 21, 2006 at 8:30 in Soda Hall. Since space is limited and lunch will be provided, registration is required. We will turn away people who did not register.

8:30-9:30 Vista Keynote

 

Windows Vista is designed for Schools and Businesses of all sizes. Focused on helping you achieve cost and operational efficiencies in desktop image deployment, management, and security, Vista will make a difference in any school setting.  Vista also helps PC users to be more effective in their work by offering improved connectivity with advanced integration across technologies, networks, and systems, as well as providing them with quick access to better organized information. This session will go over the most important features for the education community and provide you with a demonstration of the new operating system.

 

 

9:45-11:00 Management Technologies

 

In this session, you will hear about Microsoft’;s Management technologies that can help you in managing your environment from the mobile device to the data center.  We will discuss specific features and value of Systems Management Server (SMS), Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM), System Center Report Manager (SCRM), and other System Center products as well as the combined benefit when integrated together.  Also learn how our partners are increasing our management value proposition by extending our reach to include the management of non-Microsoft systems – specifically Apple OS X, Red Hat, Solaris, and all major versions of UNIX.  We will also discuss the future roadmap of Microsoft Management technologies.  After the general session, please join us in the afternoon for a Microsoft Management ‘chalk talk’; to discuss specific areas as well as how Universities are using our solutions to address management tasks in their environments.    

 

 

11:00-12:30 Information Worker

 

Microsoft portal solutions provide a rich suite of integrated portal capabilities, including real-time collaboration, teaching and curriculum management, document management, and a highly customizable platform for the delivery of information and applications. This session will discuss best practices on document management, vendor access to campus and departmental shares, security of documents and collaboration tools/solutions.

 

 

12:30-1:30 Lunch will be provided

 

1:30-2:30

Securing the Information Workplace with Microsoft® Antigen and Client Protector

 

Discussion on using a layered approach to insuring maximum protection for messaging and collaboration environments. ; We will review the Microsoft Security solutions and the most effective ways to manage and combat spam and other unwanted malware in higher education.
