Hello,
I don't know where is the problem, because I never have this
problem,
but there are many postings in the forums about mtooltip is
behind
clist or something similiar.
What about a function/service in the core, or in a plugin,
which give
back the hWndInsertAfter parameter for the SetWindowPos()
call in each
plugin? Maybe with the setting "Always on top" in
this service too, not
in the settings for the plugin.

Peter

Hi All,

Most of that topics is about some layered window is above/below other window.. often other window s layered too.
Looks like WindowsXP has some strange/incorrect Z-Ordering of they. Most probably it is windows issue. I guess it is due to Layered window can not have child windows. Actually it can (after some tricks). But they will work incorrect. E.g. simple rule ' all child and owned window always appears above their parent/owner'/ Does not work or work with errors.

I explained that in some of the testing build threads. It is not a Miranda problem at all and there isn't any way to fix it except by restarting explorer or relogging the account. It's a generic Windows problem with the z-order of desktop windows. In such a case, other strange things can happen, e.g. tooltips from system tray icons may appear *behind* the taskbar (certainly nothing which can even remotely be related to Miranda).

The issue *sometimes* appears when people are using fullscreen DirectDraw/D3D applications like media players or games. I've seen this occasionally on my system and it's hard to find a fix for it. Sometimes, it's enough to bring another window to front, or start an exit another fullscreen app, in other cases only relogging the account can fix it.

I found this postings about this bugs a little bit annoying,
because I
never had this problems since I used miranda, (Windows XP,
Windows
Vista), therefore I thought it would be possible someway
through
miranda to fix this, therefore I get this idea with
something like a
service for this. ;)

It doesn't happen always and probably not on all systems. It happens sporadically and there is no safe way to reproduce it (not even with the same fullscreen application). I tried to reproduce it, but it seems to be really random.

Like Fyr pointed out in his mail, it is in some way related to layered or composite Windows. That's why people using clist_modern or nicer are seeing it more often.

In most cases, the problem occurs when switching back to desktop from a fullscreen application, no matter how the switch is triggered (alt-tab or just exiting the fullscreen app). Then, something is wrong with the desktop z-ordering and some Windows which should be "on top" may appear behind their parents or owners.
