It is very simple...

Less convenient and less user friendly = fewer contributions
= less value =
even fewer contributions = more frustrated users = less
business for Miva.

The new boards may gain some traction if MM users a forced
to that location,
but I cannot imagine that they will be used as much or more
than the current
mail server system.

Miva has nothing to loose by keeping this very active
tight-knit,
well-oiled, self-help, business-generating community up and
running and
policing itself.  Many companies will spend their entire
existence and lots
of resources trying to build what we already use everyday
and they will
never succeed.  

The fact that Miva is dismantling the infrastructure that
binds a highly
successful user community, which is built upon the honesty,
goodwill, sweat
and cumulative knowledge of their most loyal and experienced
users tells
something about the management team and mindset of this
company. 

With so many other cart options on the market and more
high-feature low-cost
options coming to market, disbanding (or at least
significantly upsetting)
the current crew Miva loyalists is certainly not in Miva's
interests.  It is
also not in the interests of Miva shareholders.

I will go out on a limb here and suggest that the current
crew of Miva
loyalists contributing to this list is one of Miva's
greatest competitive
advantages.  Great carts that adequately serve the purpose
for many SMBs
will eventually be very similar and very cheap, but
fanatical users freely
sharing everything they know, helping to build the business
of the cart
creator, will always remain priceless.  As I see it, Miva's
business is not
about another easily-copied feature.  It's about the
people.

Again, it is very simple...

type subject, type question, send. Maybe it's going to take
getting used to
it, but I probably won't try too hard. In the mean time, we
hear echos in
the halls of the empty room that used to house the Miva
community...
