Here's my forethought on one aspect of the coming fallout.
This is really
advise to people that are customers of developers, people
who purchase
modules from developers through Mivacentral or the
developers own site.
If you need support for a product/module/script, I advise
you get into the
habit of going directly to the developer's support system.
I know a good
share already do, but we know that there's enough that
don't. If you're
expecting to get help quickly by posting the new forum, it
may not come as
fast as currently does. True, we don't really know how
things are going to
shake out, but, most people stumble before they fall.
That's a little more
abstract than I intend, but what I really mean is: give the
developer's a
break if you post to the forum for support on a specific
product and the
developer isn't hanging out there -- you may not get the
help you need as
fast as you want it. Right now, if one of my customers sends
an email to the
"list" I quickly see what the little yellow
envelope is about and respond
appropriately. With the forum, it will be only a little more
work -- but,
it's a difference that I will give second thought about
while I'm working on
a project. I will probably tend be there less frequently.
With my helpdesk,
I get notified virtually instantly.
Of course, there is probably a lot of subject matter which
is community
oriented and the query should go to the forum/list.
Regards, and FWIW,
Scott
IDS
PS: at least the forum should eliminate the cross-posts
violations like I've
committed here...sorry about that.

Ummmm, hopefully - that's all I can say. I have missed the
most recent posts
from the VBulletin board I have recently subscribed to. And
YES I did as you
suggested.
