Smalltalk is interesting me these days, because I want to
play around
with Seaside. The syntax has sunk in, but the
"IDEs" are a little alien
to me (I tried both VisualWorks and Squeak). Which do you
prefer?
In my limited experience, Ruby is easier to pick up then
Smalltalk...
so don't be afraid to come to the meeting. I can show you
some
differences I've noticed so far.
> Do you have a quick agenda?
Nothing in particular. I can answer rails questions, maybe
demo some
stuff on a laptop (I don't have one at the moment).
It'd be cool if we tried to solve a ruby quiz (mini
competition?)

Has seaside had RDB support now? Last time I checked, it seemed to only support OODB.

HI,
By far, I prefer VisualWork because the Squeak IDE and GUI
development
is kind of weird a little bit. Commercially WV is more
popular I
think, I work 2 years for SPRINT in Chicago and it was
really good and
stable.
VW ide is confusing at the beginning but for anyone knowing
OO
concepts it make really sense. Also I think it is really fun
and
productive to work it.
The first time I look at Ruby I tried to find an IDE (class
browser)
similar than the Smalltalk one (I did the same with JAVA and
what I
find is too complicated like JAVA itself).
I did not find a GUI class browser for Ruby, is one already
exist? I
think it is really important to have one to easily browse
the classes
and edit them at the same time particularly when your system
have more
than 500 classes like the customer system that Hydro-Quebec
has
developed (Smalltalk VisualStudio) .
