| The tentative date for the
Install Fest is
Saturday November 11th
between noon and 4 pm. For those of you
not familiar with a Linux Install Fest, a quick Google search will provide ample
background, or check out the link below for a brief description.
Basically experienced LUG
members will install various Linux distros and other open-source software on
end-user systems, or assist them with an existing installation. We will also
have a draw for door prizes and so far, we have a copy of the latest version of
"Linux for Dummies" generously donated by the author, Dee-Anne
LeBlanc.
I wont move forward on
confirming the date with the library until I hear back from the members. Since
we have a fair amount of planning, organizing and promotion, I would like to set
a deadline of Monday October 16th to hear back from anyone who may have a
concern about this date. So please let us know on the list, if there are
concerns about this date, or, if you have any suggestions or preferences for
what you would like to see at this Install Fest. A follow-up email will begin to
outline more details such as the distros and other software we will have
available, a draft of the waiver and list of roles which will need to be filled.
One final comment, my
preference is to divide the Install Fest into two sections, one for "Home Users"
and the other for "Business Users". I believe this is a logical division given
the very different requirements of the business Linux user as opposed to the
home or hobby Linux user.
Cheers
