MRTG stores bytes/second?

Quick question
I am collecting ifInOctets/ifOutOctets.
If my collection interval is 15 as specified by the
"Interval"
parameter, then MRTG does the following:

Collects the counter
Figures out how much the counter incremented over 15 minutes
Divides the result by interval*60 to get bytes/second

Is this more or less how it works?
