In speaking with the Ritz-online rep today about the Nikon
18-200mm, he 
said that he has had several "returns" for repair
on that lens.  And he 
suggested the problem with its scarcity: some of the lenses
dont lock 
in the zoom position and are being returned for repair.  He
said they 
are trying to work out that kink before they send more out.

Any of you folks who have the lens have any problems with
the lock???
(Or is he just blowing smoke up my aperture???)

Mary, My wife has the tamron... and as I stated before it 
is a good lens, just very slow... but on the other hand she loves it and thinks 
the world of it.

Mary, I suspect that there is a problem... my lens will 
only lock if it is at 18mm otherwise it will creep out!  I find it hard to 
believe that it is that hard for them to correct it... but that is most likely a 
real problem for them.

It has Lens Creep.  There is no "Fix" because it's
just in the design.  For
me it is not an issue.
