Fay,
This question crops up every so often. I recommend that you delete
and format only in the camera. The reason is that the camera more or
less similates the PC's disks when relating to CF cards (when
connected to a PC in a Card-Reader, the CF Card is seen by the PC as
a disk/partition such as H:, I:, J: etc), but there can be - or may
be in the future - small differences between the camera's and the
PC's handling of cards.

Some people will tell you that they always delete /format via the PC,
and I believe them, so let me sum it up this way: with the PC you
_probably_ won't have any problems, with in-camera delete/format you
_cannot_ have any problems (barring i/o errors etc).

Very good advice, and very well put. I always have formatted in camera, and do it every time i am about to use a card. I tend not to format till I am ready to reuse...another form of saving files, I guess.

I used to just have iPhoto delete them as I loaded them the second

Now I try to remember to reformat ... I don't know whether it makes
