http://www.pbase.com/nikonjeannie/image/86960540
I just opened a 30 day trial subscription at Base.Of course, I had
just
paid my money to Flickr last week for another year, so it looks as
though I may have two sites if I like pbase.
I have just posted 4 images that I had already posted on Flickr so I
could see the difference.Click on this image, and then hit previous to
see the other 3.
It should be set up to allow comments from everyone.
Please have a look and let me know what you think.
Thanks

For me pBase is much better. Faster loading and I like the layout
better (also customizable).

I don't think you can beat your own website. I currently use http://www.ipowerweb.com/  ;which costs me $6.95c per month when I buy a 2 year package. With the state of the dollar these days, that's pretty cheap!! For that I get all the fancy stuff - databases and php and cgi and lots of emails and shopping cart and counters etc etc etc, plus 300GB (yes Giga-Byte) of hosting. Just how many photos do you want to put online?!?! I put a photo gallery on the site recently - I used Gallery2 - its very good, and free. (Advice: DO NOT use the Preinstaller).
People get in a twist about web-pages: ooh that's too technical - I could never do that. So use templates. Find a page you like and get someone to show how to change it. Text menu down the side. Its pretty easy.

I also use Gallery2, but in linux, just unpack the tar-ball where it
is to be and run the configuration.

Hey Tim,
can you give a little bit more info about copying a
web site please, what do you mean by 'Text menu down the side'? Thanks. I
have a bunch of templates too, but have absolutely no idea where to start.
I have a guy who wants about 300 dollars to make me a web site. Sounds a
bit much after reading your post.
Thanks
Reg

I've been designing websites for a quite a few years. Don't do it commercially any more, but still like to keep my hand in with my own sites.
Thing is, website can be as fancy or as basic as you like. What counts is content. You can have all kinds of fancy menus and javascript and flash, or you can just keep things simple. For instance, look at my site on the movie 'A Passage To India':
It has a simple layout, comprising top banner, main content, and right side-bar where the links to the other pages are. Its all laid out using CSS (stylesheets). Feel free to copy and adapt it for yourself if you wish - just save the page as an .html + folder for the pictures, then open it up with a text editor or HTML editor and adjust until it looks right to you. Open the stylesheet in a text editor too, make and save changes, then see what happened.
I won't go on any more, or the Off-Topic Police will pull me over for speeding.
