Mobile Software Engineer

The New York Times Company’s digital operations, which
includes the #1
newspaper site NYTimes.com, Boston.com and About.com, is a
top 10 web
property with more than 35 million unique visitors a month.

The New York Times Company is looking for a Mobile Software
Engineer to
join its new Mobile Services group. The ideal candidate will
be a highly
skilled software engineer and have hands-on experience
developing backend
systems and software for web or mobile platforms. We are
looking for an
experienced PHP/MySQL developer to build and proliferate new
mobile
services for the New York Times Company and its brands. This
position calls
for a self-starter who is also capable of being part of a
select team.

Responsibilities:
   Design, develop and maintain new company-wide mobile
technology
      platforms, including SMS, MMS, WAP and other
developing technologies.
   Design and develop web-based tools for statistics and
analytics for
      mobile platforms.
   Integrate mobile platforms with New York Times Company
brands.
   Stay abreast of the evolving marketplace for mobile media
including the
      emergence of new standards, protocols and devices.
   Stretch the envelope of our thinking about what mobile
media will become
      in the next 3 to 5 years and how people will use
mobile technology
      for news, information and entertainment.

Requirements:
   BS in Computer Science
   5 years of experience with LAMP technologies (Linux,
Apache, PHP, MySQL)
   Strong working knowledge of MySQL
   Experience with Java and JSP is a plus
   Working knowledge of XML, XHTML, WAP and SMS is a plus
   Interest in mobile applications and technologies
   Experience with requirements analysis, testing, and
documentation
   Motivated self-starter
   Strong communication, problem solving and organizational
skills
