Best way to upgrade from 1.6.x ?

Hi,

I've been putting off upgrading my qube2 from 1.6.x to a
more recent  
kernel/userland.  Is there a good way to upgrade in place,
or is it  
better to start over?

I think this is described somewhere in documentation. It is
pretty easy 
- mostly download and untar.

as usual:
1) boot new kernel, see if things still work stable
2) unpack all sets except etctgz
3) run postinstall and etcupdate (and maybe postinstall
again)
    on the etc.tgz set
4) update/reinstall packages
