According to the php makefile (Makefile.php):
# Note that this is generally not needed as many of the
extensions (mysql,
# pgsql) may be dynamically loaded, and are separately
packaged in pkgsrc.
From that I would guess that you do not need to ./configure
--with-mysql=... and that installing php-mysql and
dynamically loading
it would suffice.
I am not familiar with PHP, and this is more a PHP question
rather than
a NetBSD/cobalt question. A better place to find an
authoritative
response would be a PHP mailing list
