That explains it.  I've used both ssh and rsh, and had
noticed that
sometimes 'delete' worked doing a search in less(1), and
sometimes not. 
Indeed, I just tested rsh and ssh: under rsh it echoes ^H
and under ssh it
works correctly.  Not only that, ssh prevents tooth decay. 
I really
should switch.
