Hi,

I'm trying to install NetBSD/sparc64 on a Sun Blade 100.
Booting both
the [1]latest release (3.1) and -current (4.99.6) fails:

ok boot cdrom

After this, at the terminal type selection prompt I can't
input
anything... The system uses a USB keyboard.

Help is appreciated!

TIA, Jukka

Just in case this helps: when booting an OpenBSD 4.0 install
CD on
that SunBlade USB seems to work:

ok boot cdrom
[...]
ohci0 at pci0 dev 12 function 3 "Sun USB" rev
0x01: ivec 0x7e4 version 1.0, legacy support
usb0 at ohci0: USB revision 1.0
uhub0 at usb0
uhub0: Sun OHCI root hub, rev 1.00/1.00, addr 1
uhub0: 4 ports with 4 removable, self powered
[...]

...but then the kernel panics before I can verify if the
keyboard
really works...

I also tried the latest FreeBSD release (6.1): both USB and
IDE disk
controller seem to work fine, at least I was able to create
file systems
using the system installer from the boot CD.

But I want NetBSD!

Am I hitting a known problem? Is anybody successfully
running NetBSD
on a Blade 100?

Regards, Jukka

Sounds like you ran into the Bad Old IRQ Mapping Bug. Sun
apparently
changed the way IRQ lines are encoded by OpenFirmware at
some point so
we get bogus on newer machines. Since you have the hardware
- could you
have a look and check what exactly OpenBSD does different?
My machines
are all old enough to Just Work.

have fun
Michael

I tried to, but then gave up because I didn't really
understand the code...

As a workaround you may use older OBP.

thanks a lot for this hint. I missed that thread before.

Indeed downgrading OBP to 4.5.9 fixed the problem. OBP
releases more
recent than that (I tried 4.6.5 and newer) showed the
problems reported
earlier.

My SunBlade is not in production, thus it could be used for
testing
purposes...
