It's stuck in the video BIOS; please try setting the 
machdep.acpi_vbios_reset sysctl to 0 before going to sleep.

Your hack works: it doesn't beep anymore on wakeup. But,
funnier in a 
sense, nothing happens. When I enter sleep state 3, the
power LED blinks 
(so does the LED of my WLAN PC-Card) which is good; when I
push the 
power button to recover from sleep, the laptop… merely
shuts down. I've 
not found any alternative key combination or other trick to
wake it up.
