i am using a wg311v3 netgear wireless pci card with the
marvell chipset. i would
gratefully use netbsd if only the kernel were ndis enabled
by default. for the
life of me i can't get this kernel to compile. thank you for
listening.

I don't get what you are requesting... there's enough info
in the
i386/ndis(4) manpage.

And no, it cannot be enabled by default because it needs
additional
files from windows drivers.

It would be great spot if the Windows piece could be an
LKM.

We'd still need to embed the object file (built with
ndiscvt(8) from
the .INF and .SYS windows files) into the LKM, and these
files are
driver specific.

I don't know how FreeBSD does it, but I'm not sure how easy
it is.

Right -- convert the Windows .inf/.sys files via ndiscvt
into an LKM.

It doesn't sound easy, but this is a wonderful place to do
it.
