I dunno. There's something going wrong while configuring
that cardbus card.
The "manufacturer 0x0, product 0x0" is
suspicious. It's just a hunch, but
take a look at man 4 cardbus - especially the last
paragraph.

Are other cardbus cards known to be working, or is cardbus
dead altogether?

I don't know 
Personally, I'm a bit weary about realtek stuff. But I 
wouldn't be overly surprised if this turns out to be an
issue with the
laptop, and not with the card.
