howto point sysinst to sets?

Hi!

i could need some help on the following issues:

I want to install netbsd on an Apple Network Server
500/132. After
spending many hours i managed to boot from external cd on
scsi bus,
with a cd burned from the macppc iso image of netbsd 1.6.2.

The cd is toasted as ISO 9660, macintosh names allowed.
Any other cd´s , such as multisession cds´s from iso images
or
multiboot cd´s failed to boot.

Now i am in sysinst, the harddisc has their partitions
(default) and
sysinst wants me to tell it where the .tgz sets are located.
Here is my problem:

choosing :
device cd0 (default), directory /macppc/binary/sets(deault)
tells me that there are no mandatory installation sets.

But i know they are...

So questions are:
1. Is it only the wrong device name? How can i figure out
how it is
named?
2. May there exist a problem using a ISO 9660 CD?

Another idea:
Once i´ve booted into sysinst, i could remove the device and
plug a
harddisk. How must the harddisk set up to get a mountable
device for
sysinst?

Net is known not to work properly on ANS 500 for
installation.

Help please!

Thanks ,

Peter

Can you mount the CD manually at the shell (exit sysinst,
mount cd,
start sysinst) and use the mounted dir in sysinst to install
the sets?

1.6.2.

The 1.6.2 sysinst won't correctly install current.
However since 'almost all' it does is format/partition/newfs
the
disk and then extract the tar archives maybe you can do it
by hand.

No idea why nothing newer won't boot though.

^^^
this is bad. that's the external slow/narrow SCSI
controller.

Note that no cd(4) devices were detected, probably
due to the esp0 errors above.

I can think of two possible ways to work around this.

1) drop a PCI NIC in the thing and pull the sets from
a server. (I've never gotten the mc0 in mine to ever
function)

2) get a CD-ROM drive on one of the internal fast/wide
SCSI buses.

P.S. You could always just use it as a printer stand
or end table like I use my 700/150. :P

Jonathan,

you are right, the cd drive was not detected. And i could
not mount
it. But putting a pci nic into the machine was the solution.
I was able to get the sets via ftp.

Now the next problem begins:
after sysinst told me the sets have been extracted
succesfully i am
not able to boot from the fresh installed disk.

It finds and executes ofwboot.xcf but there seem to be some
trouble
with the kernel:

any idea?

and btw: wich is the most current devision of netbsd your
ANS accepts?

Peter - thinking about other use of the ans...
