The license prevents us from copying code which nobody
proposed doing.
It wouldn't be practical anyway since linux console drivers
are
fundamentally different from NetBSD ones.
And if we really wanted to copy code we could always ask the
original
authors for permission - when writing the dbri audio driver
I used
someone else's work as base which later turned out to be
based on a
linux driver so instead of rewriting the thing I tracked
down the
people who wrote it, got their permission to use the code in
a BSD
licensed driver, mentioned them in the credits and that's
it.
But what we're talking about here are register offsets to
talk to the
DAC, if anyone owns the specs it's the hardware vendor. So,
as long as
we don't actually copy anything from GPLed source code we
should be
safe.
