Correct, I have an SGI Octane sitting around unused in
Hoboken, NJ,
waiting to be picked up and NetBSDified. Unfortunately,
it's rather
heavy, so shipping is not really an option...

I'm in southern California, so I can't easily pick it up.
I don't know
the SoC student's location yet, but I have asked him.

Answer: Beijing, China. I guess this makes a pickup in
Hoboken NJ out
of the question.
Thanks anyway. In the meantime, if anyone else can help
out, please
let me know.
Jan, I don't know enough about SGIs, but can they be setup
with a serial
console so that some of this testing might be done remotely?
Its not as
nice as having hardware on site, but would at least be a
step in the
right direction.

Just to throw my Eur. 0.02 into the discussion: I have a
dual-CPU Octane
sitting here unused for at least 2 years (due to ENOTIME)
which I'm
planning to sell in the near future. It's equipped with a
PCI cardcage,
too, so supporting PCI hardware is no problem either.
I'm located just outside Karlsruhe, Germany.
If anyone's interested in borrowing or buying the machine
for a porting
effort, let me know.
Cheers,
Gerald

Yes, in fact, they usually can be used via serial console.
It's quite
easy if you have the right cables, I just installed a NetBSD
this way on
my own Indigo 2.

What CPU type? R10k? R12k? Or even R14k?

The Octane has PCI peripherals on the CPU board. The PCI
card cage just
adds an additional XIO-PCI bridge with the required
mechanics to mount
PCI cards.
If someone is seriosly working on a MIPS64 port and wants an
Origin 200
for testig: I own an O200 and can make it available for
remote testing.
The O200 is particularly suited for this. It has a service
processor
that can power up/down, reset, ... the machine via RS232.

This sounds very very promising. Yes, we have someone
seriously working
on this. I'll get back to you.

We have an 0200 just sitting here doing nothing. If someone
wants to come
get it then do so and we'll give it away.
