I forgot to mention, I used 'boot cd:ofwboot.xcf
netbsd.macppc' at the
OpenFirmware prompt.

Thank Izumi-san for that

Good to know and no, there's no real power management so far
besides
putting the CPU to sleep when idle.

If it's idle it shouldn't heat up too much. I committed
drivers for
some fan controllers a while ago - if your powerbook happens
to be
supported you can lower the threshold to keep it cool enough
( see
sysctl machdep.* )
If not please have a look at your OF device tree, there
should be a
'fan' node somewhere, its 'compatible' property should tell
us what
kind of temperature sensor / fan controller you have (
likely some
Analog Devices i2c part, data sheets should be available and
writing a
driver should be more or less trivial )

stage (scary!).

Not sure about that - on OF3 we don't really need to do any
installboot
voodoo IIRC.

have fun

Hi, i want to use netbsd-3.1-rc3, but i have many problems.
I can`t boot the netbsd-3.1-rc3 iso from a cd, also if it
installed on a
hfs partition. i don`t boot it.
For this reason I installed netbsd-3.0.1 and want to upgrade
to 3.1-rc3
with cvs -d anoncvsanoncvs.NetBSD.org:/cvsroot co -r
netbsd-3-1-RC3 -P
src.
Then I do/ build.sh tools kernel=GENERIC_MD distribution,
and copy the
kernel./ But now as I want to reboot, in the openfirmware
comes the
following errors: Invalid memory access at... and
*decrementer*
exeception error.
I don`t know, wahat I can do. If one of you have a idea, say
it me. How
I get netbsd-3.1-RC3 on my Powerbook, last Revision, with
1,5ghz.

I've cross-built a new Kernel without "abtn* at
adb?", based on
3.1RC3 sources.

--> Same results: kernel stops at device "i2s",
the System is switched off.
"boot hd:,ofwboot.xcf netbsd -c" works stopping at
"uc>" prompt.
Keyboard input is possible.

Kernel output:
------------------------------------
console keyboard type: unknown, assuming ADB
NetBSD 3.0.1_STABLE (GENERIC_PB58_MD) #0: Sat Sep 30
17:57:34 CEST 2006
       total memory: 2048 MB
       avail memory: 1973 MB

userconf: ......
uc>
-----------------------------------

I still suppose, that the problem doesn't have anything to
do with
brightness and keyboard, but with a device, that a device
driver cannot
handle correctly (maybe?); something with follows
"i2s" directly...

Best regards. / Hilmar.

I've also been unable to boot the release candidates on a
PowerBook 6,8
(12" screen, 1.5Ghz processor). I found several mailing
list posts from
back in February[1] that included some suggested
workarounds. However,
when I tried to install from both a netbsd-3 and netbsd4
build with the
changes included, I still had no success. With netbsd-4, I
get a screen
with a hex dump, which is replaced by another screen with a
circle in it
before I can read the dump.

Is there any diagnostic settings in Open Firmware that I can
either use
to see the hex dump or display any other information that
may help solve
this issue?

Regards,

Chris
