Firewire drives on 3.1?

Does anyone actually use a firewire attached drive on 3.1?

I see that there are firewire devices listed in the kernel
config file.

I tried to use firewire with my AMD64 box and it panics
every time. So
I'm wondering if macppc works.

I'd like to attach a hard drive via firewire to save me some
trouble
of figuring out how to mount it internally.

Thanks.

Ok, sounds good.

I was hoping to go to 4.0 at some point because I guess altq
will work
better. So if firewire works better to, that's wonderful.

I'll probably try it with my firewire iPod to start with
before I
start buying disk enclosures for my drives that are firewire
attached.
