Hello,

as you might have noticed a branch has been created (
ppcoea-renovation
) in order to share more code between the various
PowerPC-based ports.
So far interrupt handling, time counters, PCI and ISA bus
code is now
largely shared (ok, ISA isn't relevant for macppc)
Before merging it into the main branch I'd like see some
testing.
It's known to work on my machines, namely a PowerBook 3400c,
a beige G3
and an iBook G4. Support for G5 is very likely broken, I'll
fix that as
soon as I have the hardware.
So please test on whatever hardware you have and let me know
how it
goes.

have fun
Michael

Should one be running -current or can those of us on stable
branches
help too? (I'm using the netbsd-3 tag)

I'd be happy trying a kernel with 3.x compatibility, but
wouldn't want
to put in a whole new userland.

I also have a i386 machine with 4.0_BETA2 that I could use
to cross-build.

Joe.

non-current userlands should work as long as you don't use
threads (
the threading mechanism changed a while ago ). If you do
you'll have to
update libpthread but that's it.
Anyway, if the new code causes trouble you'll likely notice
before any
userland stuff is run.

have fun

How about a dual G5? PowerMac Dual G5 7,3 2.2 Open Firmware
4.

I don't follow Apple hardware, so I don't know what the
difference
between a G4 and a G5 is architecture wise; but I do know
that OS/X has
to come off of this thing with a quickness. ~BAS
